Christmas potlucks are mostly dessert

Left alone, a Christmas potluck becomes a table of cookies. That is not a complaint, but a list lets you steer: three slots for cookies, one for a cake, and room for real food as well. Each line has a number, so the cookie trays stop at three and somebody has to bring the lasagna.

The starting list covers a holiday party at home or at a community hall. It has finger food for the hour before dinner, a ham and a baked pasta for the main course, and a line for cups and plates, which is the thing nobody remembers to bring.

What is on the christmas starting list

Planning notes for a Christmas potluck

December is the busiest month for invitations, so send the link early, around the first of the month, and mention the date in the message so it does not get buried. Choose a date at least a few days before Christmas Eve if you want people to say yes.

Many guests will be travelling with dishes. Ask for things that survive a car ride: baked pasta, cookies and bars, not a soufflé. Add a line to the note about allergies in your family, then let guests mark nuts and dairy on their own dish.

Questions

When should I send a Christmas potluck sign up sheet?

About three to four weeks before the date. Earlier and people forget; later and they have already filled their calendar. The sheet stays online until thirty days after the event, so there is no rush to take it down.

Can I keep the list for next year?

A free sheet is removed 30 days after the event. The Holiday Season Pass ($9.99, one time) adds duplicating a sheet as a template. Purchases are not open yet.

What stops two people from bringing the same dish?

Each item has a number needed, like “Pie x3”. Every sign-up uses up one. When the last one is taken the button disappears and the item reads “All claimed”. If two guests tap at the same moment, the server accepts one of them and tells the other to pick something else.

Can I print the list?

Yes. The host view has a print button and a PDF download of the sheet as it stands, and the printable page makes a blank sheet for people who would rather write with a pen. Free copies carry one small “Made free” line at the bottom.

Is the potluck sign up sheet free?

Yes. A free sheet takes up to 20 sign-ups and 25 items, needs no account, and stays online until 30 days after the event. The Event Pass ($4.99, one time) lifts those limits for a bigger gathering.
